Ebook Working Group duties

LEAP duties

Collections

This will be a space for sharing
information
on building ebook collections,
including such issues as publishers,
licensing models, copyright, and diversity.  

Identify e-content providers willing to work with libraries,
specifically drawing on small and indie presses, self-published
content, public domain collections, and other open sources.
Identify publishers and content
providers whose work will be available
in the marketplace
  Create landscape survey of e-content providers;
help other libraries leverage those relationships
Research and offer input on which publishers
library ebook projects should include - including
SimplyE (for libraries) and Open eBooks (OEI)
  Feed into how DPLA can provide ready access
to readers, researchers for open access and
public domain materials. Improve distribution,
acquisition, distribution workflow and mobile access.
Describe mechanisms for how libraries can
onboard content to a national platform to promote
better-informed decision making about e-content
purchasing
Advocacy

This will be a space for people in library
ebooks to connect and share more broadly
and build relationships. It will also advocate
to those outside the group about the concerns
raised here.

Foster community-building throughout the field
by sharing information on library e-content projects
Gather input from library community
about
what they’d want in a marketplace
  Outreach to related groups (i.e. ASCLA,
DCWG, ReadersFirst) to leverage work being
done by others and share our findings
Gather feedback from libraries who are
doing pilot projects using SimplyE and using the marketplace
  Advocate to larger ebook community -
publishers, authors, vendors, developers
Spread the word about marketplace, SimplyE, OEI
  Recruit members to join DPLA Ebook Working Group 
OperationsThis will be oriented around specific projects;
principal investigators on grants will have their
own teams in place to handle grant operations,
but are encouraged to share findings with DPLA
Working Group members. The DPLA workstream
will be a space to convene and share information
about ongoing projects and concerns related to
managing an ebook project. 
Help lead conversations among other
library ebook project owners about how to operate an ebook program
RFP/vendor selection/vendor relationships for marketplace
  Develop best practices for vendor contracts, licensing contentEstablish the business functions
necessary to establish and run a pilot program for marketplace
   Expand SimplyE usage - talk to libraries, publishers
   Continue with Open eBooks operations
GovernanceThis group exists on per-project basis
and will not be a standing DPLA workstream.
It is formed to look specifically at marketplace
ownership for LEAP, but can be used to help on
other projects as well as in conjunction with operations.

TechThis will be more oriented around specific projects;

teams in place to handle technology, but are
encouraged to share findings with DPLA work group
members. The DPLA workstream will be a space to
convene and share information about ongoing projects and concerns related to the technical aspects of ebooks and platforms. 
Space for the people who develop platforms, applications, APIs etc to
discuss their work

requirement prioritization, user needs/user stories for these LEAP projects:
