Metadata Review

  1. Open a book already in Open Bookshelf
  2. Title
    1. Is the title capitalized (with articles and prepositions lowercase)?
    2. Is the subtitle in the subtitle field?
    3. If there is a volume or edition, add in the subtitle field or at the end of the subtitle
  3. Author and contributors
    1. Are all the contributors listed (if you can see more names on the cover, look up the book and add contributors)
    2. Are they given the appropriate title? Eg Authors vs editor vs translator
      1. Sometimes editors are listed Jane Doe (editor). Delete the "(editor)" and change to editor in the dropdown
  4. Series - add if applicable
  5. Publisher
    1. This info auto displays in the DPLA Exchange, so if you can take the time to google the book, it's greatly appreciated!
  6. Publication date
    1. Same as publisher - if you can take time to find it it's appreciated and looks much cleaner!
  7. Description
    1. If missing, see if you can google one (mostly public domain will have one)
    2. Remove any weird html changing the font
  8. Classification
    1. Check that age and genre look correct
  9. List
    1. Remove from any Needs Review list - leave any others on
    2. Add to a manual list where necessary (eg Textbooks, Academic)
